Work together

When reading about it is not quite enough.

A plan built for your actual numbers is a different thing from an article about the idea. If you want that, here’s how it starts.

See if it’s a fit

A few minutes. No cost, and no obligation at the end of it.

What happens

  1. A free Retirement Strategy Session

45-minute call on Zoom with me. I ask what matters most to you and answer the questions you came with.

  2. If it fits, you join

Paperwork, then the planning work starts. Tax strategy, income plan, legacy planning and the investment portfolio, built as one thing instead of four.

  3. It keeps going

Formal reviews, ongoing monitoring, and someone who calls you when something changes rather than waiting for you to notice.

What it costs

One transparent annual fee covers everything: proactive tax planning, retirement income design, estate and insurance coordination, and investment management built for retirement rather than adapted to it.

The minimum is $20,000 a year. What you actually pay depends on the scope and complexity of your situation, and it is agreed in writing before anything starts.

There are two ways it can be structured — a percentage of the assets we manage, or a flat annual fee. Flat fees are adjusted 3% a year. Either way, fees are billed quarterly and typically deducted proportionally from the accounts we manage, so there is nothing to pay separately.

We do not earn commissions, we do not sell financial products, and we take no incentives from anyone else. Define Financial’s full fee schedule is in its Form ADV Part 2A (opens in a new tab).

More on how this works — minimums, what the first call covers, and where Motion ends and Define Financial begins — is on the frequently asked questions.

Who this works for

Before you book, two things worth knowing

This is built for people 50 or older with $2 million or more in investable assets, who would rather hand the whole thing to a team than run it themselves.

Both parts matter. The $2 million is where a fee of this size starts to make sense for you rather than just for us. And the people we do our best work for are not looking for a second opinion on a spreadsheet — they want tax planning, income design, estate coordination and investment management handled together, by people who do it every day.

If that is not where you are yet, the guide and the videos are free and always will be, and there is nothing on this site you need to pay for to use them.

Questions people ask first

Will I actually work with you?

Yes. The strategy session is one-on-one with me, and I stay the lead planner. The wider Define Financial team works behind me.

How are fees structured?

One transparent annual fee, with a $20,000 a year minimum. What you actually pay depends on the scope and complexity of your situation. There are two ways it can be structured — a percentage of the assets we manage, or a flat annual fee, which is adjusted 3% a year. Either way it is billed quarterly and typically deducted proportionally from the accounts we manage. It is fee-only, so no commissions. Define Financial’s full fee schedule is in its Form ADV Part 2A.

What happens right after I fill out the form?

It’s a few minutes of questions. If it looks like a fit you go straight to my calendar and pick a time. Nothing is committed at that point.

What if I’m not a fit?

I’ll tell you plainly, in the conversation, rather than letting it drag on. Anything that happens after that is between you and Define Financial, under its own agreements and disclosures.

Is this the same thing as Motion Retirement?

No, and the difference matters. Motion Retirement is educational content. The advisory relationship, if there is one, is with Define Financial, a separate registered investment adviser.

Ready when you are.

A short form, then my calendar. 45-minute call, no cost.

Not quite ready?

That’s completely fine, and it’s the right answer for most people most of the time. Read for a while first.
